Urban Roof Garden
Recycled chimney pots provide a safe boundary enclosing an urban roof garden. Raised corner beds with rendered walls frame an artificial lawn. A central brimming pool (with dyed black water) reflects and brings in the sky above. Under the shade of a malus in blossom a benched area between raised beds and a table made with a decorative recycled man hole cover invites a place to rest. An illusion of space is created by a trompe d’oeil mural on a mossy brick wall, also softened and framed by climbers. At eye level delicate planting is tucked into faux cracks. An old TV ariel is recycled to support a climber and echoing this silhouette a fruit tree in bud is pleached against the south facing wall. Seasonal spring planting contrasts against the weathered roofscape, as pale blossom, acid greens and sky blues are dotted with dark tulips.
Thomas Houghton
Sustainable Spaces
Thomas’s design is based on the theme of creating a space that is both aesthetically pleasing whilst also being practical and engaging the viewer, highlighting some simple ways we can harness nature to benefit our gardens. He will create a space that encourages bio-diversity and sustainability within a garden setting. By using sustainable/ recycled materials he hopes to highlight some of the ways we, and the public viewing the garden, can create gardens that offer solutions to future problems, ie, water shortage or fresh produce sourcing. The garden will be practical in the sense that it will have elements that can happily be transferred from a Show Garden environment and be applied to any garden setting.
Zeno Perfetti
The Cubist Garden
Zeno wanted to emphasize the three-dimensionality of the garden, by fracturing it into geometric forms and by reproducing different perspectives. The soft natural beauty of the living walls has been combined with the red-orange metallic lustre of copper. The earth-toned colours of the gravel, the planter and the teak cubic seats add interest and uniqueness to the design, while the pink and bronze Phormium 'Jester' matches copper wonderfully.

The Fusion Garden
The Fusion Garden combines the styles of the East and the West to create a contemporary, relaxing and easy outdoor space. The garden has been designed so that it may be interpreted as a small London courtyard garden, roof garden or an area belonging to a bigger outdoor space. The ishi-tate so (stone-setting priests) were influenced by the Sung painting style of capturing the spirit of something rather than a literal translation. The Fusion Garden in the same way captures the spirit of the Orient.

Floating Space
Floating space is a fundamental creation where the contribution of the materials plays a relaxing but still practical part. This space is rich in contrast, presented in a delicate way. The harmony of the garden comes from a calming natural colour palette with the simplicity of all the elements linking together. The top of the wall is dedicated to the aesthetic aspect and is made of randomly positioned floating like wooden beams which creates movement and texture that is contrasted by smoky glass flooring which stimulates calms and neutralizes the structure. The living wall plays a decorative function together with the flower beds which are carefully selected to support a wooden feel and therefore the seating area could become a perfect place to rest or dine.
